Rory Clarke
Rory joined Andrew Nurnberg Associates in 2017 and worked in the Foreign Rights department for five years. Now a Primary Agent in the UK department, Rory is actively building his list and represents authors of literary fiction and non-fiction.
In fiction, he is looking for voice-driven and story-led literary writing powered by strong ideas, evocative settings and a command of form; original novels that make the reader think critically, feel deeply, and contend with the world around us. Whether it’s realist or speculative, historical or contemporary, he is drawn to books with a clear and distinctive voice, often wryly funny and/or full of emotion, as well as a gripping story, clever plotting, and vivid worldbuilding.
In non-fiction, Rory’s taste is broad. He is interested in a wide range of non-fiction from popular science, history, literary and cultural criticism, music and pop-culture, current affairs and nature writing. Across all these areas, whether it’s an academic making their work more accessible and relevant to a wide readership, or more personal, narrative writing that blurs lines, pushes boundaries and intersects thematically and in its approach, Rory is primarily looking for compelling, original stories from emerging experts with surprising, new takes on their subject.
