COME D’ARIA (Like Air) by Ada D’Adamo wins the Strega Prize 2023

7th July, 2023

We are thrilled to announce Come D’Aria (Like Air), which Andrew Nurnberg Associates handles on behalf of Elliot Edizioni, has won the Strega Prize in Italy, together with the Strega Giovani prize, the Strega Off prize, the Mondello prize, and special mentions especially created for it by the Flaiano prize and the Campiello prize.

Ada D’Adamo was a ballet dancer and non-fiction author. Sixteen years ago, her life was turned upside down when she gave birth to her daughter, Daria, who lives with severe disabilities. Come D’Aria is a heart-wrenching letter from a mother diagnosed with cancer to her daughter living with disabilities, while the author’s illness brings her closer to Daria’s way of life.

Sadly, the author passed away in April, shortly after learning she was longlisted for the prize. The book has since taken the Italian literary world by storm, and has become a bestseller. Rights were pre-empted by Grasset in France, who compared it to Joan Didion’s The year of magical thinking, which they publish. We are negotiating deals in multiple territories.
