Paradise

In an illegal establishment for surrogate mothers, run like a Chinese detention centre, resides a mute young woman whose observations of the director of the establishment and the other women inhabiting “paradise” are interwoven with childhood memories, particularly of her mother. Through her innocent gaze, and the individual characters and their backstories, the reader builds up a portrait that is at once sensitive, satirical and poetic.
Touching upon themes explored in her previous works, Paradise draws on Keyi’s preoccupation with women and their place in society, and includes the author’s own stunning illustrations.
