The story takes place during the Revolution and Civil War and represents the author’s attempts to make sense of the way a past civilisation sought peace and harmony of mankind. The novel’s protagonist, Anton Cowl, considers himself to be marked by fate and is trying to find himself and his place in a rapidly changing world, in which the revolutionary movement is gradually emerging, thrones are being overthrown, there are power shifts and a gruesome struggle between the forces of Reds and the Whites.
