Rachel Watson grew up in Bolton, Lancashire and now lives in Cambridge with her family. A former BBC journalist based in London and Brussels, she spent five years in Cambodia, Kosovo and the US as a freelance reporter and as a campaigner for refugee organisations. In 2009 she graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London with an MA in Creative and Life Writing. She has completed a memoir about the trauma of living through a pregnancy when the baby was not expected to survive, an extract from which appeared in the Daily Telegraph weekend magazine in November 2010. Rachel is currently working on a darkly comic domestic drama about tolerance and belonging, in which a struggling middle-class family abandon their inner-urban neighbourhood in a panic over schools.
