Naoise Mac Sweeney
Born in London to Chinese and Irish parents, Naoíse Mac Sweeney worked in international development and as a model before pursuing an academic career. She is currently Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Vienna, having previously taught for ten years at the University of Leicester. She has also held positions at Cambridge and Harvard, and received her PhD in classics from Cambridge University in 2007. Her book, Troy: Myth, City, Icon, was published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2018, and charts the changing meaning of the Trojan War myth over three millennia. It was shortlisted for a PROSE award. Her latest book, The West: A New History of an Old Idea, was published in March 2023 by Ebury (PRH) in the UK and Dutton (PRH) in the US and was a Radio 4 Book of the Week.
