Jessica Clarke
Jessica is an historian and archaeologist, specialising in ancient Roman theatre and entertainment. She is an Early Career Research Associate at the Institute of Classical Studies (University of London), and next year will take up the Shortland-Jones Rome Fellowship at the British School at Rome.
She was awarded her PhD in Ancient History by University College London, and her first academic book, A New History of Ancient Roman Theatre, is published by Liverpool University Press. As well as academic publications, she has written for The Times Literary Supplement, BBC History Magazine, History Today, The History News Network, Ancient History Magazine, and La Repubblica.
Jessica has also held teaching posts at University College London, consulted on exhibitions for the Greece and Rome Department at the British Museum, and worked on excavations for Museum of London Archaeology. This year, she was awarded the post of Expert in Residence at the Classical Association.
Her first popular history book explores the creation of ancient Rome’s mass media Empire and will be published by Bloomsbury Continuum in 2027.
