Hannah Rose Woods
Hannah Rose Woods is a cultural historian, and is particularly interested in the history of people’s emotional lives. She has a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where she taught modern British history, and in 2016 captained her college’s team to victory on University Challenge. She has written on arts, culture and politics for the New Statesman, The Guardian, Standpoint and Elle magazine, and has appeared as a contributor on BBC Radio 4 and 5 live to discuss topics including women in higher education, what universities are for, and the history of the campus novel. She lives in London and Nottinghamshire. ‘Her first book, Rule, Nostalgia, was a Financial Times, New Statesman and Guardian Book of the Year. Her next book, a history of students in modern Britain, will be published by Profile in 2026
