Françoise Harvey

Françoise Harvey has had short stories published in various horror and weird fiction magazines (Weird Horror, Black Static, The Dark etc), as well as some less-weird fiction places, including Best British Short Stories 2017. She was the recipient of a Northern Writers Award in 2017, DYCP funding in 2020, and was one of the 2024-25 cohort of the mentoring programme Writers’ Block North East.
She was born in Belgium but moved away at an early age, which is why she has a French name but doesn’t actually speak French very well. She mostly grew up on the Isle of Man, give or take a few other places, but now lives in a railway town in north-east England, having settled there after some time in North Wales and London.
When not writing, she works part-time in her local library and rest-of-time as a freelance proofreader, editor, creative facilitator and music event organiser. She amuses herself with songwriting and singing when the writing gets too quiet, and painting when the words get too wordy. She also hosts a podcast for a regional magazine, where she gets to interview other North East-based writers about how they got into writing.
