Daniela Richterova

Daniela Richterova is associate professor in Intelligence Studies at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. She specialises in Cold War intelligence history as well as contemporary issues related counterterrorism and state-based threats. She has published in International Affairs, The International History Review, and West European Politics. Her research has been featured in Foreign Policy, The Guardian, BBC, The Times, and in a number of documentaries. Her book Watching the Jackals: Prague’s Covert Liaisons with Terrorists and Revolutionaries was published by Georgetown University Press in 2025. It explores communist Czechoslovakia’s relationship with violent Middle Eastern non-state actors, including the PLO and Carlos the Jackal.
Richterova is director of the MA in Intelligence and International Security and co-director of the King’s Centre for the Study of Intelligence. She completed her doctorate at the Politics and International Studies Department, University of Warwick; earned her MA degree in War Studies at King´s College London; and pursued her undergraduate studies in Politics and International Relations at Comenius University in Bratislava and NYU, New York.
