Bernard Clavel (Estate)
Bernard Clavel (1923-2010) was born at Lons le Saunier, a small town in rural France. He was brought up by loving parents, but in a home with no books, no running water and no electricity. He turned this comparative poverty into a source of personal wealth, fashioning his life, as he constructed his work, with strength, coherence and profound humanism. "I am a writer, a novelist, a story teller. Someone who carries many worlds within himself and is desperately bent on bringing them to life." This autodidact’s impressive journey through the twentieth century culminates at the Bibliothèque Cantonale et Universitaire in Lausanne, where his manuscripts and personal papers are in safe keeping.
