Owen Matthews
Owen Matthews reported on conflicts in Bosnia, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Iraq, and Ukraine, and was Newsweek‘s bureau chief in Moscow and Istanbul. He is the author of the Black Sun Trilogy, including Black Sun, Red Traitor, and White Fox, and several nonfiction books, including An Impeccable Spy.
His work has been shortlisted for the Orwell Prize for Political Writing, the Prix Medicis Etranger and the Grand Prix des L’Ectrices d’Elle, among many others. He is the winner of the 2023 Pushkin House Book Prize for Overreach: The Inside Story of Putin and Russia’s War Against Ukraine.
