A writer and an actress, Katie likes nothing more than creating characters and losing herself in other worlds – both on the page and on stage.
She studied English Literature at Sheffield University and was lucky enough to take a year abroad – in North Carolina – where she attended her first SCBWI conference, winning the Bill Hooks Jnr Prize for both the Young Adult Category and Best Picture Book.
Returning to England, she completed her degree, then spent a year at drama school. On graduating, she spent the next few years acting and touring, taking a breather to go travelling through South-East Asia – only to discover whilst in a Vietnam internet café that she was a winner of the SCBWI 2008 Undiscovered Voices competition. She tried valiantly to complete her YA novel, Someone Else’s Life, whilst on various beaches/boats/elephants, but ultimately decided it was best to wait until she got home.
Now firmly back in the UK (for now) Katie is working furiously on a variety of projects, from YA novels to picture books and young readers – whilst playing the odd princess/assassin/zombie in between…
