Charif Madjalani was born in Lebanon in 1960. After living in France for thirteen years, he returned to Lebanon and now teaches French literature at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut. His novel Caravanserail was awarded the Prix François Mauriac and the Prix Tropiques. Beirut 2020 won the Prix Femina Special Jury Prize.
