NEW ART OF COOKERY awarded 2017 Jane Grigson Trust Award

Congratulations to Vicky Hayward, whose NEW ART OF COOKERY: A SPANISH FRIAR’S KITCHEN NOTEBOOK was awarded the 2017 Jane Grigson Trust Award, at a ceremony last night in London.

One of three shortlisted titles, Hayward’s book is a modern retelling of an eighteenth-century Spanish cookbook by Franciscan friar Juan Altamiras, including fresh, simple and surprisingly easy to make recipes.

The judging panel said of the winner, ‘The judges considered this unusual book to be in the spirit of Jane Grigson, carrying its scholarship lightly. The biggest surprise was how delicious the food of an eighteenth-century Spanish monastery actually was.’

NEW ART OF COOKERY will be published by Rowman & Littlefield in June 2017, and in Spain by Ariel in September 2017.
