Elena Varvello's CAN YOU HEAR ME? shortlisted for the TA First Translation Prize

22nd January, 2019

The English translation of Elena Varvello’s LA VITA FELICE (CAN YOU HEAR ME?) by Alex Valente is shortlisted for the TA First Translation Prize, one of the seven categories of the 2018 Society of Authors’ Translation Prizes. This is an annual prize, established last year by the renowned translator Daniel Hahn, for a debut literary translation, to be shared between translator and editor.

The judges said of Valente’s translation: “It is probably the hardest trick of all for a translator to sustain fluency, clarity and pace in plate-glass prose across a story whose twin engines are event and character. Alex Valente does all that and more.”

The winner will be announced on 13th February. For more information about the awards, click here.
