2016 Horst Bingel Prize awarded to Gila Lustiger

11th November, 2016

Congratulations to German author, Gila Lustiger, who has been awarded the 2016 Horst Bingel Prize for Literature for her essay, ERSCHUETTERUNG: UEBER DEN TERROR (Berlin Verlag, 2016) which examines the November 2015 terror attacks in France.

The award, held biennially, celebrates literature which combines literary quality with social and political commitment. The prize jury reflected on Lustiger’s essay, commenting:

“Starting from her subjective perception of the shock caused by the attacks in Paris, Gila Lustiger seeks answers to questions raised by the traumatizing events. She connects her own research and thoughts with the historical and contemporary positions of writers, philosophers, historians, sociologists and psychologists.”

Gila is the author of various titles, including DIE SCHULD DER ANDEREN (Berlin Verlag, 2015) and SO SIND WIR (Berlin Verlag, 2007), which was shortlisted for the German Book Prize.  An English language translation of ERSCHUETTERUNG will be published by Notting Hill Editions in June 2017.
