Authors

Helen is the author of the bestselling, 14-book Adventure Island series and the Secrets of the Tombs series (The Phoenix Code, 2014; The Dragon Path, 2015; The Serpent King, 2016) all of which are published by Orion. Her latest series, The Time Dogs (2019), is published by Henry Holt.

Born in 1964, Helen grew up in the beautiful rolling countryside of Worcestershire. After a degree in Psychology and Philosophy, she studied for a PhD in psycholinguistics at the University of Cambridge and spent many happy years as a research scientist investigating the way the brain processes language and meaning. Helen has lived in London, Glasgow and Oregon, and has two grown-up sons, but now lives near Cambridge with her computer-scientist husband and two elderly Border Collies. Helen enjoys going into schools to give author talks and creative writing workshops, and is proud to be Author in Residence, Patron of Reading and Book Pen Pal for a number of schools, as well as Honorary Patron of Linton Children’s Book Festival. When not writing or in school, Helen can be found walking the dogs, playing netball, and, whenever possible, climbing up or skiing down mountains.
